Welcome!

Following the successful first Urban Sound Symposium held at Ghent University in 2019, the second edition in 2021 faces the challenges of the pandemic. The symposium will turn this challenge into an opportunity giving easier access to practitioners and experts from around the globe that are confronted with urban sound in their professional activities. It will be organized simultaneously in Ghent, Montreal, Nantes, Zurich, London and Berlin by researchers at Ghent University, Mc Gill University, Université Eiffel, EMPA, UCL and TU Berlin. The online happening will create opportunities for interaction between participants at poster-booths, virtual coffee tables, and will even includes social activities.

Topics

The program will include invited plenary talks by eminent researchers from around the world in a single stream, as well as panel discussions on emerging issues. The main themes are urban sound planning and design, urban sound propagation and control, sound technologies, and urban soundscape analysis. There is also an option for contributed talks in the form of virtual poster-stands where recent research can be showcased and discussed with peers. The latter contributions are being subject to review before acceptance. The USS invites you and your colleagues to submit your abstracts once registration opens. Details and instructions will follow.
