Senior Acoustic Oceanographer – UK Hydrographic Office

Closing Date
15 January 2020

The UK Hydrographic Office is looking for a data focused Earth/Ocean Scientist with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the principles of underwater acoustics, to join our unique organisation as Senior Acoustic Oceanographer.

This role is one of two Senior Acoustic Oceanographer posts that sit within the Ocean Environment Team – part of the wider Scientific Analysis Group. The team is specifically responsible for managing a diverse range of marine environmental data (e.g. tidal, marine biological, oceanographic, geological, acoustic and ocean climatological) to support the UKHO’s input into commercial, SOLAS, MOD and Allied requirements.

Our customers require professional advice and a range of Situational Awareness products providing information about the marine environment to assist in their planning. To support this, the Ocean Environment Team acquires data from a variety of sources and analyses that data for subsequent use. As the Senior Acoustic Oceanographer, you will provide the expertise necessary to identify and analyse relevant acoustic and geological data sources and use these, in conjunction with web and literature searches, to provide an assessment of the environment likely to be encountered.
