n this seminar, I will discuss our recent activity in acoustics and mechanics, showing how suitably tailored broken symmetries in meta-atoms and their arrangements open exciting venues for new technology. I will focus in particular on the opportunities offered by time modulation and switching, reciprocal and non-reciprocal Willis coupling, and topological order in metamaterials, which provide unique opportunities for exotic acoustic and mechanical responses. Physical insights into the underlying phenomena, and new devices based on these concepts will be presented.
