A new generation of urban vehicles are being proposed, both airborne and ground based. Airborne vehicles, broadly named urban air mobility (UAM, eVTOL) have been hailed as the next aviation revolution, in spite of considerable problems identified at various levels – acoustics being one. No viable configuration has yet emerged, either as rotorcraft or as fixed-wing aircraft. These vehicles vary in size from small drones to full size electrically-powered, multi-rotor vehicles capable of manned transport. Large aerospace companies have joined the efforts in this race to be the first.
The aims of this workshop are: 1.) To assess industrial and international context; 2.) To produce a technology forecast in urban mobility; 3.) To identify acoustic problems and challenges in computational aero-acoustics, experimental methods and psycho-acoustics; 4.) To fill the gap in knowledge with new research initiatives in noise control and vehicle design. This workshop will have official proceedings.
Confirmation of Talks
We need confirmations of talks, together with titles, to make detailed plans. Preference will be given to contributions that illustrate challenges. Issues of confidentiality and IP must be cleared in advance. Please get in touch as soon as possible with a proposal. Deadline: Friday 13 March 2020.
Venue and Accommodation
The event will be held at the Hyatt hotel on the University campus (55 Booth Street W, Manchester M15 6PQ, off Oxford Road). The workshop is limited to 25 people to encourage interaction and discussion in this smaller group setting.
Contribution to expenses
This event is partially sponsored by the UK Vertical Lift Network (VLN) and the UK Acoustics Network (UKAN). A very limited amount of funds is available to cover travel expenses.
