Computational Acoustics in Industry Sandpit

The Computational Acoustic SIG leadership team are running a sandpit event that will be held at UCL in April 2023. The sandpit will run over one and a half days and its purpose is to promote academic engagement with industry, and foster new collaborative research that generates novel ideas for solutions to real-world acoustic problems. External organisations will present computational acoustics challenge/problems to an audience of interested academics and postgraduates from the acoustic community. The audience then organise into smaller groups to delve deeper into the important aspects of the challenge and, from this, they then try to formulate a research approach and determine the resources needed to tackle each challenge. Academics, postdoctoral researchers and postgraduates working working in the fields of theoretical and computational acoustics are welcome to attend.

Event Timing: 24th April (10:30am -5pm), 25th April (10am -1pm)

Industrial Challenges

Three problems will be presented by our industrial partners in the areas of:
(i) wind noise and high-rise buildings,
(ii) electro-acoustical simulation of loudspeaker drive units.
(iii) noise barrier performance under varying environmental conditions

Timetable

The outline itinerary for the sandpit is now as follows:
Monday 24th April
10:30 registration opens/ coffee etc.
11:15 Introduction/Welcome
11:30 Challenge presentations
12:30 Lunch and networking
13:30 Short presentations from academic attendees (with coffee breaks and networking in between)
17:30 end of first day summary
Tuesday 25th April
10am Networking, Knowledgebase Hackathon and 1-to-1 chats between academic- industrial partners in breakout rooms.
12:00 Plenary discussions – conclusions and follow-up plans
12:30 – 13:30 Lunch and close

The event will be free to attend for UKAN+ members.
