UKAN Underwater Acoustics PhD Symposium programme – 16 December 2019
Book of Abstract for UKAN Underwater Acoustics PhD Symposium – 16 December 2019
The UK Acoustics Network (UKAN) Special Interest Group for Underwater Acoustics (SIGUA) will be holding a one day symposium on 16 December 2019 at The University of Bath.
The aim of the day is to allow PhD students to present details about their research to like-minded colleagues and promote feedback and discussion. We would like to attract students at all stages of their PhD, including people who may have completed their PhD in the last couple of years. If you have only recently started your PhD you may wish to give a presentation on your chosen research topic, what you hope to achieve and how you intend to go about it.

We are hoping that we can bring together all of the UK’s Underwater Acoustics PhD students in one place on one day. Please contact any of the organisers below or email underwater@acoustics.ac.uk if you can attend.
The day will start with an invited presentation by Dr Yan Pailhas who gained his PhD a few years ago but has since worked as a Post Doctorate RA and is still working on Underwater Acoustic related research at the NATO Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation in Italy. Later in the day the chair of the meeting with give a presentation on his long standing career in underwater acoustics research and Sonar, including his PhD through the Physics department at the University of Bath, his research in Dstl and through his honorary positions in academia.
The UK Acoustic Network will be covering the cost of attending the symposium and so there will be no fee to attend the day and refreshments and lunch will be included. You will need to register
so that we know how many people will be attending and so that we can notify the catering supplier. If you would like to give a presentation please send a title and abstract to the conference committee by 31st October 2019. Acceptable presentation will be notified by 15th Nov 2019. A list of abstracts will be published on the UKAN website prior to the event.
The UKAN may be able to assist with the cost of travel and accommodation and you can apply using the form at https://acoustics.ac.uk/?resources=request-for-uk-acoustics-network-travel-grant-form.
If you are not already, you may want to consider some of our Special Interest Groups, such as Underwater Acoustics and Early Careers.
Travel options to the venue are presented at https://www.bath.ac.uk/topics/travel-advice/ and, should you wish to stay longer before or after the event, there is more information about
accommodations at https://visitbath.co.uk/where-to-stay/all-accommodation/. Bath is a very popular town, especially in the run-up to Christmas, so we would encourage you to plan early if interested.
