Responsibilities

The main responsibility of the PDRA is to tackle the technical challenges in early identification of sewer infrastructural degradation. The PDRA is required to develop novel optical fibre sensors by working together with industrial partners, for sewer pipeline condition monitoring and for detection of the onset of pipe leaks. The PDRA is also required to develop appropriate software to extract the useful information from the sensor data captured and inform the stakeholders of the pipe conditions in real-time.

Person Specification

The successful candidate is required to have expertise in optical fibre sensors and/or optical instrumentation and an ability to work closely with and report to industries involved, coordinating with academic and industrial partners.

They must have completed their thesis for a PhD in Optical Engineering, Optical Instrumentation, Optical Sensors, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Physics or a related subject. Having prior experience of working with industry or tackling industry-focused problems and/or software development skills is highly desirable.
