Abstract

This presentation will discuss the burden of disease for environmental noise effects on health, summarising current evidence for a range of health effects including annoyance, cardiometabolic health, and sleep, highlighting how this evidence informs policy, guidance and impact assessment. Further discussion will consider the challenges associated with reducing noise exposure to improve public health.

Bio

Charlotte is an epidemiologist and psychologist with over 20 years’ experience of researching the effects of environmental noise on health in both academia and consultancy. She is an internationally recognised expert in the field of environmental noise effects on health and is currently Secretary of the International Commission on Biological Effects of Noise . She has advised the World Health Organization, DEFRA, the UK Airport Commission, and the Independent Commission for Civil Aviation Noise.
