About the role

We are looking for a Research Engineer in Numerical Acoustics to join our talented team. This role is a great opportunity to join a growing team working at the forefront of innovation in new acoustic materials. In recent years a new class of acoustic materials with high performance properties has been developed called acoustic metamaterials. The Research Engineer will play a key role in the design and development of our innovative materials.

What you will do?

  • Sample design – Product development
    • COMSOL modelling
    • Development of parametric studies (in collaboration with research assistant)
    • Collaborating with other members of the research team to deploy fundamental material models and optimisations
    • Simulations of proposed designs in live environments
  • Sample design – Customer projects
      • COMSOL modelling
      • Altering existing designs, and creating new ones, to respond to environmental conditions of customer applications
      • Simulations of proposed designs in live environments, modelling real world applications
  • Design optimisations
      • Collaborating with other members of the research team on product development and innovation

What you will bring?

  • Proven track record in scientific work and a relevant degree such as a PhD or equivalent work experience in acoustics.
  • Experience in analytical or numerical modelling of acoustic problems.
  • Excellent capability and significant experience in COMSOL or equivalent modelling software/techniques.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience of writing scientific reports.
  • Ability to work well independently, be a self-starter, and bring new ways of working to the research team. Creatively solve problems and take ownership of new projects.
  • Ability to manage more than one workstream at a time and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate well with internal teams and external partners.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and complexity and open to change and learn.
  • Experience of interaction with industrial research project or experience working in research within an industrial environment would be desirable.
  • Experience in product design and/or optimisation would also be desirable.
