We seek a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join the Physical Acoustics Research Group in the Department of Engineering Science. The post is funded by the Jiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute (JITRI, Jiangsu, China) and is fixed-term to 1 November 2021, with a potential option to renew for an additional 12 months.

You will be part of a team working on novel technologies in industrial ultrasonics, responsible for the development of an ultrasonic bio-reactor system, with emphasis on acoustic cavitation monitoring, to promote gene transfer, enhanced biodegradation, and manipulation of microbial biofilm growth. In addition, you will be asked to work with JITRI on the task of identifying one or more Chinese-based companies to partner with moving forward.

The successful applicant will possess a PhD in a relevant discipline as well as the ability to (a) contribute to the development of the bioreactor, (b) develop methods for ultrasound-induced in situ gene transfer into established biofilm communities, and (c) assess gene uptake using standard techniques such as plate counting, microscopy, and sequencing.
