We are looking for applicants that have the potential to do great research and contribute new knowledge to Acoustics. But we also want applicants who have a broader interest in sound and who want to join and collaborate across a diverse community of researchers. We will provide you with access to bespoke training and specialist laboratories to support your individual research and develop the core skills to make a difference in your future career.
The CDT provides fully-funded PhD positions. This includes:
- A stipend based on the standard UKRI rate For 24/25 this is £19,237 (25/26 value not yet known)
- A small number of enhanced stipends for widening participation are available. Increased value of £2,000/annum.
- Cost of UK home tuition fees
- A small number of places will fund international fees (the number we can offer is restricted by the funder).
- Research Training Support (RTS), which covers costs of carrying out research such as lab consumables, travel to conferences, access to facilities etc.
- Free access to the CDT’s cohort training such as summer schools We cover travel and subsistence costs.
Projects
There are three types of projects:
- Industry-Driven Projects: Collaborate with leading companies and other stakeholders on real-world challenges.
- Academic-Proposed Projects: Engage in cutting-edge research initiatives designed by our faculty members.
- Student-Proposed Projects: Develop and pursue your own innovative research ideas under expert supervision, tailored to your specific interests and career goals.
The CDT was funded to address the challenges of our project partners and this mean that type (1) projects are given first priority when deciding which get CDT funding. Please click the links to read descriptions of the projects at the four universities.
Eligibility
Academic Qualifications
- A 2.1 or better in a relevant undergraduate degree or a relevant masters degree.
- Must be in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Audiology, Psychology, Environmental Science, Architecture or another subject with relevance to your research topic.
International Students should demonstrate the required level of English Language Proficiency achieving a minimum level of 6.5 in IELTS or equivalent minimum score required in other English tests.
