As part of British Science week, on Friday 14th March from 10am to 12pm UK-time, we are giving you the opportunity to learn how to do outreach work in the UK from the Women in Engineering, Science and Technology (WEST) experts. WEST has been working on a pilot programme with UKAN+ to develop outreach in Primary and Secondary schools focusing on Acoustics or sound-related careers. The aim is to widen access so that acoustics can attract and nurture a wide range of talent across the UK. WEST will share their pilot programme findings and discuss their wider outreach experience to help develop approaches and resources that can make a difference. Early positive and inclusive experiences of STEM careers (including Acoustics) are essential to widen interest and access for girls (and boys). This webinar has been organised by the WEST team and the UKAN+ EDI team led by Simone Graetzer. Thanks to Zoe Hunter, Simon Chandler-Wilde, Hasina Rahman and the volunteers for their support.
Please register via this form by midday Thursday 13th March 2025 UK-time to receive your invitation to attend.
Who are WEST?
WEST is a small charity with a big aim: to inspire girls and women to study and work in non-traditional trades and careers. They have lots of experience in outreach delivery in schools that is inclusive and diverse; they work with schools and great role models to change perceptions about what girls and women can do in South Yorkshire. Find more information and support their work here: www.westskills.org.uk.
