Fourth Underwater Acoustics PhD Symposium Day

The National Physical Laboratory will be hosting the fourth one day Underwater Acoustics PhD Symposium on 12 December 2025 at NPL Teddington (TW11 0LW).

The aim of the day is to allow PhD students to present details about their research to like-minded colleagues and promote feedback and discussion. We would like to attract students at all stages of their PhD, including people who may have completed their PhD in the last couple of years, as well as PhD students that have started this year, and MSc students who are interested in starting a PhD next year. If you have only recently started your PhD you may wish to give a presentation on your chosen research topic, what you hope to achieve and how you intend to go about it.

The event is free to attend and should be of interest to all researchers, practitioners, and users of underwater acoustics in government, industry, and academia. Everyone interested in underwater acoustics is encouraged to attend to support the PhD students presenting their research.

The day will include a series of invited talks from researchers with different careers and experiences of working in underwater acoustics (more details to be added when confirmed).

Call for Presentations

If you would like to give a presentation about your PhD project please include a title and abstract in the registration form by 24 November 2025. The abstract should be no more than a single side of A4. We are inviting short lightning-style talks, which may be suitable for new PhD students and MSc students, plus longer talks to describe your research.

Acceptable presentations will be notified by 28 November 2025. A list of abstracts will be published prior to the event.

Early registration is encouraged to help us with event organisation. Please contact the organisers at freya.malcher@npl.co.uk if you have registered but are no longer able to attend or you have any other questions.
