With the advent of ultra-high-bypass-ratio turbofans, sources of noise which have traditionally dominated aircraft noise, such as jet noise, have been reduced. In addition, the upcoming transition to hydrogen-based aeroengines is expected to increase the relative contribution of the noise produced by unsteady combustion (combustion noise), which is beginning to be recognised as the next noise barrier for commercial aviation.

In this talk, Dr Juan Guzman-Inigo will present his latest findings on combustion noise, including new insights into the indirect sources of combustion noise and how to optimise acoustic liners in combustors to reduce this component.

Dr Juan Guzman-Inigo is Lecturer in Aerospace Propulsion at City University of London. Before joining City in 2022, he was a Research Associate at Imperial College London and the University of Cambridge. He obtained a Ph.D. from the Ecole Polytechnique Paris/ONERA in 2015. His research interests are computational fluid mechanics, aeroacoustics and flow control.
