  • Comments : APPEARS TO BE LONGER AVAILABLE (15 Dec 2023). This is a very dirty dataset and requires cleaning if one wishes to use. Some data is of much higher quality and there exist a trimmed version in addition to a long form version. It is recommended that in training a ML model on this that one is cautious about which files are chosen. The extended dataset can act as a very challenging test set for any Bio classifying model.

DEFRA Acoustic Data Sets

Potentially the UK’s Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) could be approached to determine whether acoustic data from the UK’s Continental Shelf is available from the activities that they have sponsored under the UK Marine Strategy for maintaining GES (Good Environmental Status) and through their relationships with neighbouring countries. “Marine Strategy Part Two: UK updated monitoring programmes”, DEFRA, UK, March 2021. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/marine-strategy-part-two-uk-marine-monitoring-programmes

NATO CMRE Data Sets

Potentially the NATO’s Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation (CMRE) could be approached to determine whether acoustic data is available from the activities (mainly Meditteranean Sea but some work in NE Atlantic). Probably difficult where UK not involved in sponsoring, but possible where UK sponsored activity. Possible CMRE may hold acoustic data from older activities involving UK which could be made available (including when it was NURC and SACLANTCEN).
