The National Oceanography Centre (NOC) – the UK’s centre of excellence for oceanographic sciences – is looking to recruit a science leader with proven expertise in underwater acoustics research and a desire to drive forward new applications of acoustics in the marine environment for societal benefit. The role will involve working as part of a multi-disciplinary oceanographic research team of over 190 scientists and engineers seeking to enhance sustained ocean observations to meet NOC strategic challenges. This includes seafloor, sea surface and water column acoustical observations using the latest autonomous platforms and novel sensor technologies (including fibre optics). The post holder will sit in the Marine Geoscience research group that offers complementary expertise in sub-seafloor geophysical inversion, modelling and interpretation, seafloor mapping, and laboratory acoustic pulse tube facilities.
