Postponed – Surface velocity workshop – University of Hull (UK)

This three-day theoretical and technical workshop will address non-contact surface velocity methods for determination of river and floodplain flows. It is hosted by University of Hull, in partnership with the Environment Agency.

  • Acoustic methods
  • Thermal imaging
  • Drone based methods
  • Velocimetry using satellite imagery and earth observation
  • Software tools and data processing
  • Site considerations and site selection
  • Uncertainty and verification in results

We are expecting global experts to share their knowledge in presented and workshop sessions, as well as partake in field exercises and practical demonstrations. The final day will focus on innovation, and overcoming limitations with these methods.

Of particular interest are the planned sessions on measuring flood flows using video shot from satellites, with attendance from ultra-high resolution satellite operators, Planet.com and a session on the potential of thermal imaging to allow measurements in low flow and poor lighting conditions.

Please consider attending to learn about these methods or to share your knowledge and expertise. A small registration fee of £160 will be charged for attendance, including refreshments and dinner on both nights of the workshop. Accommodation has been reserved at low rates.

The event is hosted by the Energy and Environment Institute at the University of Hull and is financially supported by the University of Hull, Sheffield University and the Environment Agency.
