More info

This session is open to delegates of the annual ICA conference who are in the early stages of their careers in either industry and academia. You are invited to attend this very exciting event, where you will have the opportunity to hear from our carefully chosen panel of speakers. We will be focussed on, but not limited to, career paths in the hearing and spoken language industry. The roles represented will include acoustic engineers, project managers, entrepreneurs, and more. There will be opportunities to ask questions, participate in lively discussions, and practice pitching to industry representatives.

This is a great opportunity to network and explore career pathways, possibilities and strategies for moving between industry and academia. We hope attendees will come away with a better understanding of the possibilities available to them, and discover options that they may not otherwise have been aware of. The event follows a poster session titled “Speech enrichment: listening effort and intelligibility” and will end with a drinks reception; an ideal way to make valuable connections.

Confirmed speakers:

  • Ralph-Peter Derleth: throughout his career at Sonova, Peter’s work has covered the implementation and evaluation of hearing device algorithms, audiovisual processing and speech perception in hearing aid users, and much more.
  • Inga Holube: after working as head of the Audiological Research and System Technology department at Siemens Audiologische Technik GmbH, Inga is now a professor at the University of Applied science Oldenburg
  • Luc Jaouen: Luc is an owner and researcher at Matelys, where he works primarily on the acoustic properties of porous media, as well as having a keen interest in building acoustics and cognitive science.
  • Jérémie Voix: Jérémie leads research teams at ÉTS spanning academia and industry, developing hearables, digital hearing protection, and even in-ear solutions to hearing device battery life. He will be giving a Plenary Lecture at the ICA.
  • Jürgen Peissig: In his roles as professor at Hannover University, and former head of department for acoustics and audio signal processing at Sennheiser electronic research, Jürgen develops new and exciting methods of digital signal processing.

We will also have a talk on ‘How to become a professor while enjoying the process’ from

  • Kirill Horoshenkov: Professor of Acoustic at the University of Sheffield, UK. His research interests are in acoustic sensing and acoustics of porous media.
  • Richard Craster: Professor of Applied Mathematics at the Imperial College in London. His research interests are in wave mechanics, metamaterials, fluid mechanics and elasticity.
