Posted on Jan 14, 2019 in Early Careers Group, Job Opportunities in Acoustics

A PhD opportunity is available to work in the area of audio and speech signal processing with Prof. Nilesh Madhu at the University of Ghent, Belgium.

The PhD research proposal concerns the enhancement of noisy speech acquired by a single microphone. Specifically, the topic is at the intersection of signal processing and machine learning. Within this PhD the goal is to develop novel methods for audio and speech enhancement, that combine the strengths of traditional, statistical-model based algorithms with the advantages offered by approaches based on machine learning and deep neural networks. The application areas of this research encompass the fields of telecommunications, hearing prostheses, and human-machine interfaces. The work will be carried out under the supervision of Prof. Madhu at the Internet and Data Sciences Lab (IDLab), within the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture of Ghent University, Belgium.
