  • PRofessor Manohar Bance

    University of cambridge

    Professional/research interests:
I am an otologist, and clinician scientist

What would you like UKAN to do for you?
Develop new tools for clinical diagnostic and therapeutic applications

How would you like to contribute to UKAN?
    Bring a clinical application perspective

    Equipment:
    Cadaveric lab, biomaterials, 3D printing

    Specialist Interest Groups (SIGs):
  • Miss Lara Díaz García ORCiD

    University of Strathclyde

    Specialist Interest Groups (SIGs):
  • Mr Cian Jones

    AECOM

    Professional/research interests:
Underwater acoustics - modelling and simulation of sound propagation
Bioacoustics - effects of noise on fauna, possible sound absorption qualities of flora, using sounds from animals as ecosystem indicators.
Noise complaints - use of masking for a more desirable soundscape

What would you like UKAN to do for you?
Invite me to events to learn and develop my knowledge of acoustics.
To offer a network of acousticians to meet.
To introduce me to previously unconsidered/unaware areas of acoustics

How would you like to contribute to UKAN?
Be a presence within the network through attending events and, desirably, presenting.
To be involved on committees to boost the popularity and importance of acoustic study within the UK and internationally.

    Equipment:
I am a member of the Leeds AECOM Office and have access to knowledge from within the team.

    Software or numerical codes:
    Unknown.

    Specialist Interest Groups (SIGs):
  • Ms Jessy Liew

    MITS Solutions Asia

    Specialist Interest Groups (SIGs):
  • Professor Megan Povey ORCiD

    University of Leeds

    Professional/research interests:
Measurement of the properties of complex heterogeneous materials
Manipulation of material properties at all scales

What would you like UKAN to do for you?
    Outreach

How would you like to contribute to UKAN?
    Outreach

    Equipment:
Ultrasound velocity and attenuation spectrometers from 10 kHz to 200 MHz
    Airborne ultrasound imaging
    Acoustic diffractometer
    Low power ultrasound insonification

    Software or numerical codes:
    Comsol, MATLAB, DPD, Solid Edge

    Specialist Interest Groups (SIGs):
  • Dr Chris Sumner ORCiD

    Nottingham Trent University

    Professional/research interests:
Anything to do with hearing. Perception. Neurophysiology. Computational models. Hearing loss.

What would you like UKAN to do for you?
I think UKAN has the potential to bring together hearing researchers in the U.K., enabling us to tackle larger problems within the field and interact more effectively with related fields.

How would you like to contribute to UKAN?
By organising the hearing SIG. I would like to think that a group focussed on perception of sound could be helpful to other groups working on other domains of acoustics.

    Equipment:
Sound booth, and many standard psychological facilities. NTU also has researchers studying other aspects of perception, like movement, and vision, and associated lab setups.

    Software or numerical codes:
Computational models of the auditory periphery.

    Specialist Interest Groups (SIGs):
