M.Sc. Marianna Anichini

Humboldt University of Berlin, Germany.

Professional/research interests:
My field of interest is bioacoustic and evolutionary biology. In particular, I am investigation the acoustic behavioural plasticity and how this ability might vary between individuals of the same or different populations. I am also interested in underwater anthropogenic noise and how it can affect the communication between individuals.

What would you like UKAN to do for you?
I would like to get in contact with the Early Carrier group and attend the Summer School this August. I would love to extend my network contact with other PhD colleges and early Post-doc researchers.

How would you like to contribute to UKAN?
I can bring my expertise in both underwater and aerial bioacoustic recording and sound analysis, under an interspecific comparative approach.

Sarah Armstrong

RPS

Professional/research interests:
I am an Assistant Acoustic Consultant at a large consultancy firm. My work largely involves carrying out surveys and delivering reports for clients in support of planning applications, or in response to noise complaints.

What would you like UKAN to do for you?
I'm new to the field, and would like to broaden my knowledge of acoustics and eventually pursue a specialism in an area of interest. I would also like to engage and participate with the wider acoustics community to learn more about my field, and its future direction.

How would you like to contribute to UKAN?
I can offer insight into acoustic consultancy, and may submit research and observations noted over the course of work.

Dr. Ersen Arslan

Figes Engineering

Professional/research interests:
As a mechanical engineer I have spent several years of my academic and industrial career in engineering acoustic problems including NVH tests, muffler design and analysis, impedance tube development for both commercial usage and in-house research activities, shock and vibration analysis of structures for land vehicles and surface ships, etc. I also developed code in Matlab to investigate sound propagation in aerosol media through ducts numerically.
- Industrial Noise and Vibration Control Applications
- Acoustic Materials
- Noise Testing
- Aerosol Acoustics
- Computational Acoustics

What would you like UKAN to do for you?
I want to exchange knowledge and ideas with experts of similar interests, enlarge my academic and professional network in the community and contribute to a research group with my skills and expertise, if possible.

How would you like to contribute to UKAN?
I would like to share my technical and industrial knowledge with the group and participate in a research study by taking a role in accordance with my skills.

Equipment:
Despite being outside UK, an acoustic impedance tube measurement system, a sound level meter, Matlab and Ansys together with several computing clusters can be listed as equipment and software infrastructures.

Software or numerical codes:
MATLAB (general coding, signal processing, GUI development, Simulink, etc..), ANSYS(3D modeling, structural, acoustic, fluid dynamics) are the main ones.
