Counter Rotating Open Rotor noise reduction for general aviation by Dale Smith (Cranfield University)
- Apr 21 - Apr 21, 2021
- 14:00 — 15:30
- Online via Zoom
Counter Rotating Open Rotors (CROR) are seeing a renewed interest due to their promise of reduced fuel burn relative to conventional engine architectures. However, there remains concerns surrounding their noise emissions. In this presentation, novel CROR configurations are investigated aimed at reducing CROR noise at take-off for general aviation class aircraft. Low-order tools are first used to investigate a large design space before a more high-fidelity approach is used on a smaller number of specific designs. Using these numerical tools, it will be shown that the unique CROR configurations can be utilised to reduce CROR noise whilst maintaining high propulsive efficiency.
