Computational Acoustics in Industry Sandpit

Code background
The Computational Acoustic SIG leadership team are running a sandpit event in London at UCL in April 2023. The sandpit will run over two and a half days and its purpose is to promote academic engagement with industry, and foster new collaborative research that generates novel ideas for solutions to real-world acoustic problems. Three external organisations are each expected to submit and present a computational acoustics challenge/problem to an audience of interested academics and postgraduates from the acoustic community. The audience then organise into smaller groups to delve deeper into the important aspects of the challenge and, from this, they then try to formulate a research approach and determine the resources needed to tackle each challenge. Academics, postdoctoral researchers and postgraduates working in the fields of theoretical and computational acoustics are welcome to attend.

We are still interested in speaking to industrial partners that would like to participate and are looking to develop new academic partnerships. Please email the CA-SIG leadership team computational@acoustics.ac.uk if you would like to discuss.

The 2023 Annual Conference will be held in Sheffield provisionally on the 5th July. This face to face event will be a fabulous opportunity to meet fellow UKAN+ Members as well as hear from some inspiring speakers.

We are currently outlining the programme and would love to hear from you if you would like to help arrange sessions or speak at the event. Email z.hunter@acoustics.ac.uk if you would like to get involved.
Sounding our National Parks
Capture
Researchers from University College London and the Universities of Aberdeen and Sheffield have been working over the past eighteen months on a sound mapping project, funded through UKAN+. Working closely with staff at the fifteen UK National Parks, they have created a sound map which is launched this month.

The map can be found at https://www.bit.ly/nationalparkssoundscapes (please use Chrome, Edge, Opera or Firefox browsers) and further details, including how to upload sounds to the map, can be found at https://www.bit.ly/npsoundscapespublic

Follow-on funding has been awarded by UCL Global Engagement to develop this work, partnering with academics in Italy at the EURAC Institute in Bolzano, linking sound projects undertaken in the Dolomites and the Cairngorms National Park: https://silenziinquota.mypixieset.com/silenzi-in-scotland

The full article from the team is on the UKAN+ resources page.
